Pattern Details

The pattern I used for this project is from Planet Peach 'Scandi Shorts' bought off Etsy. Using a slightly thicker waistband.

Construction Process

  1. Print A4 pattern, cut and tape together.

  2. Cut out fabric!

  3. Sew front pieces and back pieces together.

  4. Connect side pieces using a french seam

  5. Sew the middle with another french seam

  6. Hem the bottom - I was a bit lazy with this and eyeballed it which accidentally made my shorts quite short

  7. Sew the waist and insert elastic! It's quite important to ensure that the hole you've created for the elastic actually fits the width of your elastic.. pulling the elastic through was a bit of a mission for me…

  8. and done!

Techniques and Skills

Techniques used: French seam

New skills learned: French seam! + Creating an elastic waistband.

Outcome and Evaluation

A nice and simple project that took my only a couple hours. I definitely will need to do this one again but with different fabric. The shorts turned out quite stiff and rigid which was not exactly what I was going for.
