candy floss bias skirt

No pattern, no problem! Just kidding did have a few hiccups along the way… But I must say I am very happy with the outcome, so chic and light - wore it out to a friends birthday the day I made it!

Pattern Details

No pattern used! Just took a long skirt I already owned and used it as a guide for cutting the fabric - make sure to remember to add room for seam allowance though!

Construction Process

  1. Cut out desired shape on the bias (front and back), use any skirt you already own and like of course

  2. PS make sure that you'll be able to get into it once done, so measure the circumference of the widest area - the bum most likely :) which should be the width of the top of the fabric + seam allowance

  3. Sew side seams right sides together - the fabric I used was a little tricky as it kept bunching and moving around, but I used some tissue paper underneath the fabric as I sewed and it really helped! After you can just rip it away.

  4. Cut elastic to the desired width

  5. Pin elastic just below seam allowance on each side and sew! Making sure to pull elastic as you sew. ZIG ZAG STITCH!

  6. Fold seam allowance over elastic and fold over once more then sew in place - ZIG ZAG STITCH!

  7. Lastly hem the bottom of skirt with a double fold!

  8. Doneee - wear to your next party with an oversized shirt or cute top :)))

Techniques and Skills

Learnt how to handle slippery and thin fabric ! Or at least got a bit better at it. Tissue paper under fabric as you sew is the trick

Outcome and Evaluation

So happy with my skirt! Although I should have given myself some more time to complete this project.. rushing meant I made quite a few mistakes. Will definitely do this one again with perhaps some thicker elastic and more time
